About Base

Base is Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2, built on the OP Stack and among the busiest L2s by daily activity. At BaseCamp in September 2025 Jesse Pollak said the team was "beginning to explore" a native token, while stating there were no definitive plans to share.

Direction shifted materially in 2026. In July, Pollak stepped back from leading the Base App and handed it to Cobie, publicly acknowledging that the bet on onchain social and creator coins had been a mistake and left Base behind in trading, payments and tokenisation. The Base App is becoming less Base-centric, and Pollak has refocused on the chain itself as infrastructure for global finance.

How to get Base Airdrop

Step 1 :

Bridge, then actually transact

Bridge ETH from mainnet and use it. Bridging alone is the weakest possible signal — every farmer does it.

Step 2 :

Use Aerodrome and native DeFi

Swap and provide liquidity on Base's flagship DEX. Native-protocol usage has consistently outweighed generic activity in comparable distributions.

Step 3 :

Focus on trading, payments and tokenisation

These are the areas Pollak has explicitly refocused the chain around after stepping back from the social strategy — the most likely place future weighting lands.

Step 4 :

Spread across protocol types

Lending, swaps and liquidity give a broader footprint than repeating one action.

Step 5 :

Mint a basename

Cheap, permanent, and a common criterion in past L2 distributions.

Step 6 :

Build, if you can

The Builder Rewards programme is an explicit path, and contributions of that kind tend to be weighted heavily.
Why This Airdrop Matters
  1. Base is among the largest L2s yet to distribute a token, and nearly every comparable network eventually did.
  2. Coinbase's distribution reach is unmatched — a Base token would reach a retail audience most protocols cannot.
  3. A Builder Rewards programme already exists, so infrastructure for measuring contribution is in place.
  4. Ecosystem activity pays regardless: Aerodrome and other native protocols run their own incentives.
Important Note
  • Base is only 'beginning to explore' a token, with Pollak stating there are no definitive plans to share. This is weaker than a confirmation.
  • Nothing in the steps above is announced eligibility criteria — it is inference from comparable L2 distributions.
  • Strategy has already changed once. The consumer-social direction was abandoned in July 2026, so guides written around Base App social activity are out of date.
  • Regulatory uncertainty is the real blocker. A Coinbase-affiliated token faces scrutiny Arbitrum and Optimism did not.
  • Coinbase's own channels are the only place real qualification rules would appear.
