Drift Protocol is Solana's most feature-complete decentralized exchange, offering perpetuals, spot trading, lending, borrowing, staking, and passive liquidity vaults all in one platform. It launched in 2021 as a pure perp DEX using a virtual AMM model, then upgraded to a hybrid orderbook in V2 combining on-chain liquidity with market maker participation for tighter spreads and lower slippage. With $340M TVL, $18.98B cumulative volume, and 169,000+ users, it became the dominant all-in-one DEX on Solana.
The May 2024 DRIFT airdrop rewarded four distinct groups, OG early users who built the platform, active Trader Points participants, original V1 users, and the Keeper Network operators running Drift's decentralized orderbook. What made it unique was the 6-hour linear bonus unlock, claimers who waited longer within the window received proportionally more tokens, reducing network congestion and rewarding patience over bot-racing. Season 2 launched in May 2025 via the FUEL loyalty program, making Drift one of very few Solana protocols with a genuine multi-season commitment.
Airdrop Stats
The DRIFT token launched on May 16, 2024. Total supply is 1,000,000,000 DRIFT. 120 million DRIFT (12% of total supply) was distributed in the Launch Airdrop, including a 2% bonus component (20 million tokens) that unlocked linearly over six hours from launch. Users who claimed immediately received their base allocation but forfeited the bonus. Users who waited the full six hours doubled their allocation. This mechanism was specifically designed to reduce network congestion and discourage immediate sell pressure.
