About Xai
Xai is a Layer 3 built on Arbitrum, aimed at blockchain games that need throughput and gas costs a general purpose chain cannot offer. Its security model leans on Sentry Nodes, operators who run validation infrastructure and stake for the right to do so.
That model shaped the distribution. Eligibility was not open to anyone who had transacted; it was restricted to Sentry Node operators and holders of specific Xai NFTs. Both required buying in and running something before the token existed, which made this one of the few 2024 airdrops that could not be reached by wallet cycling.

How it worked to get the Xai airdrop
Buy a Sentry Node key
Node keys were sold ahead of mainnet. Buying one bought the right to run validation infrastructure, and it carried a real upfront cost.
Run the node
Operators had to actually run their Sentry Node rather than hold the key idle, which is why this drop rewarded far fewer wallets than a typical L2 distribution.
Or hold a qualifying Xai NFT
Certain Xai NFTs, including the Vanguard collection, carried their own allocation for holders who had backed the project before launch.
Claim at mainnet launch
The airdrop landed alongside the 9 January 2024 mainnet launch, with roughly 17% of maximum supply circulating at that point.
Was the Xai airdrop worth it?
- It paid operators, not transactors. Sentry Node eligibility required buying a key and running infrastructure, which excluded the farming patterns that dominated most 2024 distributions.
- The per wallet figures were modest but real. Node operators received roughly $925 and Vanguard NFT holders around $730, against a total distribution worth about $70M.
- There was a genuine cost of entry. Node keys were bought, not earned, so this was closer to an investment with a distribution attached than a free allocation.
- Community share was unusually high. Just over half the supply was directed to the community, Sentry nodes and the Data Availability Committee combined.
