About Hop
Hop Protocol is a cross-chain bridge specialized in moving tokens quickly and cheaply between Ethereum and its rollups (and between rollups directly). It uses "bonders" who front liquidity for near-instant transfers, plus AMM pools to swap between the canonical and "hTokens." Founded by Chris Whinfrey and team, it launched the HOP governance token and a DAO in June 2022 with a retroactive airdrop to early users. HOP governs the protocol's DAO and treasury.

HOP launched June 2022 with a fixed 1B supply and handed most control to the Hop DAO. Allocation: 60.5% DAO Treasury (605M), 22.45% Team (224.5M), 8% Airdrop to early bridge users + LPs/bonders (80M), 6.25% Investors (62.5M), and 2.8% Future Team (28M), mostly on cliff vesting. Honest flag: the airdrop was small (8%) while insiders (team + future team + investors ≈ 32%) and the treasury (60%) dominated ,a point of community criticism at launch. HOP has since collapsed to near zero. Category = Cross-Chain/Interoperability; Status = Done.

Was the Hop airdrop worth it?
- A real drop, but a small one. Early bridge users and LPs got free HOP, but only 8% of supply was allocated and per-wallet amounts were modest ,nothing like Uniswap or ENS.
- Insider-heavy tokenomics drew criticism. With ~60% to the treasury and ~32% to team/investors, the community felt the user allocation was thin.
- Value evaporated. HOP launched at a low price and has fallen to near zero, so only claim-and-sell captured any value. List it as a legitimate but small bridge airdrop.
This airdrop has concluded. It is kept for research rather than participation.
