About Evmos

Evmos brought an Ethereum compatible execution environment to the Cosmos ecosystem, letting Solidity contracts run on a chain that could talk to the wider Cosmos network.

Its distribution was named the Rektdrop, and the criteria were unlike anything before it. Alongside the usual ATOM stakers and Ethereum users, allocations went to people who had been on the losing side of major exploits and failed launches, including victims of several high profile DeFi hacks.

The first mainnet attempt halted within days after a bug in the token distribution logic, and the chain relaunched in April 2022 with the distribution reworked. It remains the clearest example of an airdrop used to make a statement rather than simply to bootstrap.
