About Grass
Grass is a decentralised physical infrastructure network (DePIN) built on Solana that lets users monetise their idle internet bandwidth. Users install the Grass desktop application or browser extension, which shares their unused bandwidth with verified institutions for ethical web scraping and AI data pipelines, things like price comparison, regional ad delivery, and training data for AI models. No personal browsing history or user data is ever accessed.
Built by Wynd Labs and backed by Polychain Capital and Tribe Capital, Grass distributes GRASS tokens to users based on uptime, location, and how the bandwidth is used. It quickly became one of the largest DePIN networks in crypto with millions of active nodes. Season 1 distributed 100 million GRASS to over 2.8 million wallets on October 28, 2024, making it one of the largest airdrops by recipient count in Solana history.

Grass allocated 25.2% to early investors on a 1-year cliff followed by a 1-year vest, 22.8% to Foundation and Ecosystem Growth governed by the DAO, 22% to contributors, 17% to future incentives for Season 2 and beyond, 10% to Airdrop One, and 3% to router rewards for node operators. The community-facing allocations, Airdrop One, Future Incentives, and Router Rewards, total 30%, meaning nearly a third of all supply is earmarked for network participants. The Foundation's 22.8% is held by DAO governance, not the team directly, giving token holders meaningful oversight over how that reserve is deployed. The investor allocation at 25.2% is the largest single bucket, which is relatively high for a DePIN project, but the 1-year cliff ensures no early selling pressure at launch. With Season 2 now live and 170 million tokens reserved for ongoing distribution, Grass is one of the few projects where participation continues to generate meaningful rewards well beyond the initial airdrop.
