Event Timeline
About Swell
Swell started as a liquid staking protocol on Ethereum and expanded into liquid restaking, issuing swETH and later rswETH against deposited capital. By the time the token arrived it had a third ambition, a Layer 2 of its own secured by restaked SWELL, which is why the token was given a staking role rather than pure governance.
The points campaign was called the Voyage and the unit was a White Pearl. Depositing, holding and using Swell assets in partner venues all accrued them, and participants earned 937,551,686 in total across the campaign. The Voyage allocation was 850 million SWELL, 8.5% of a 10 billion supply, which is a large opening distribution.
The interesting part is how Swell handled vesting. Rather than vesting the whole airdrop, it drew a line at the top 250 wallets. Anyone above 208,997 White Pearls had their allocation released on a schedule. The other 99.7% of Voyagers claimed the lot on day one, which is the opposite of the pattern where small recipients are the ones left waiting.

How it worked to get the Swell airdrop
Earn White Pearls in the Voyage
Depositing into Swell and holding swETH or rswETH accrued White Pearls, with more on offer for putting those assets to work in partner protocols. Size and duration both counted.
Clear the 10 Pearl floor
The Loyalty Bonus, the 1.5% slice set aside for the earliest and most committed participants, required at least 10 White Pearls. Below that, only the main 7% pool applied.
Hold through 30 July 2024
The Voyage snapshot was taken on 30 July 2024. Pearls accrued up to that point set the allocation, and the main pool was distributed linearly against them.
Check and claim from 7 November
An airdrop checker went live ahead of the claim, which opened at 09:00 UTC on 7 November 2024 with exchange listings an hour later. The window ran six months.
Restake if you stayed
SWELL could be converted to rSWELL and restaked to help secure the Swell Layer 2, which gave holders a reason to keep the allocation rather than sell into the listing.
Was the Swell airdrop worth it?
- Vesting hit the whales and nobody else. Only the top 250 wallets were locked. For 99.7% of recipients the full allocation was liquid at claim, which is a rare and genuinely pro user design.
- 8.5% in one distribution was large. Against a 10 billion supply with roughly 13% circulating at TGE, the Voyage made up most of the free float on day one.
- Listings landed with the claim. Exchange listings came an hour after the claim opened, so there was immediate liquidity rather than a wait for a venue.
- It was a capital campaign. White Pearls scaled with how much was deposited and for how long. Small balances earned little, and there was no activity based route that paid without capital.
- The claim expired. Six months from launch, closing around May 2025. Unclaimed allocations were forfeited.
