Event Timeline
About Magic Eden
Magic Eden began as a Solana NFT marketplace and expanded into one of the few genuinely cross chain venues, supporting Bitcoin Ordinals and EVM collections alongside its original market. By late 2024 it was routing volume across all three ecosystems.
That breadth shaped the airdrop. Rather than measuring activity on one chain, eligibility drew on trading across Bitcoin, Solana and EVM together, with loyalty and cross chain engagement weighted alongside raw volume. A trader active on two ecosystems was worth more to the formula than one who had concentrated everything in a single market.
Airdrop Stats
How it worked to get the Magic Eden airdrop
Trade on Magic Eden
Trading volume was the base measure, counted across the marketplace rather than on a single chain.
Spread across ecosystems
Cross chain engagement carried its own weight. Activity on Bitcoin Ordinals, Solana and EVM collections all counted toward the same allocation.
Stay loyal over time
Sustained use was rewarded over one off bursts, so wallets that had traded through quieter periods scored better than late arrivals.
Claim before 1 February 2025
The claim ran from 24 December. Anything left unclaimed at the deadline was redistributed to stakers rather than returned to the treasury.
Was the Magic Eden airdrop worth it?
- It paid for breadth, not just volume. Counting Bitcoin, Solana and EVM activity together rewarded traders who had spread across ecosystems, which is unusual for a marketplace token.
- The whole 12.5% unlocked at TGE. No vesting on the community slice, so recipients had a real decision to make on day one rather than a paper allocation.
- Unclaimed tokens went to stakers. Forfeited allocations were redistributed within the community instead of reverting to the treasury, which is a meaningfully different outcome from the Safe airdrop three years earlier.
- Insiders held the majority. Contributors and strategic participants together took 49.8%, against 12.5% for the airdrop.
