About Rarible
Rarible launched in early 2020 as an NFT marketplace where anyone could mint, list and trade without approval. It arrived well before the 2021 NFT cycle, when the category was small enough that most activity came from a few thousand people.
RARI launched on 15 July 2020 as the first governance token given to the users of an NFT marketplace. What made it unusual was the shape of the distribution: rather than a single retroactive drop, RARI was emitted weekly and split between buyers and sellers on every trade, which is why no single figure captures what it was worth at launch.

How it worked to get the Rarible airdrop
Trade on the marketplace
Both sides of a sale earned RARI. Buying and selling counted equally, which is unusual: most programmes reward only one side.
Return each week
Emissions were weekly rather than a one off, so consistent activity across weeks accumulated far more than a single large trade.
Mint and list your own work
Creators listing pieces participated on the sell side without needing capital to buy.
Use it for governance
RARI carried a vote over marketplace parameters, which was the stated reason for distributing it to traders in the first place.
Was the Rarible airdrop worth it?
- There was no single payday. RARI was emitted weekly and split across every trade, so unlike Uniswap or 1inch there is no headline figure for what a wallet received at launch. Value accrued to people who kept trading.
- It rewarded both sides of a trade. Paying the buyer and the seller equally was close to unique, and it is part of why wash trading became a problem the team had to address.
- It was very early. In mid 2020 the NFT market was small. The people who qualified were there roughly a year before the category became widely known, which is the pattern every large retroactive distribution has rewarded.
